My Story
Running for charity at the Cardiff Half Marathon is one of the most rewarding experiences a runner can have, marked by over £20m being raised by thousands of runners over the history of the race.
Personally, I am running the Cardiff half marathon for BHF for 3 reasons:
- To give myself a goal and a challenge with my running.
- Because my Uncle Rob kept pestering me to do one and I thought if I signed up for one down where he lives then he has to do it with me.
- My mum had a cardiac arrest back in July 2020, completely out of the blue. It was one of the worst things ever to happen! We were told that if she survived, she would be in the hospital for months and would have to relearn all her basic skills. But thankfully, due to her sheer determination and the help of the machines that BHF have created, she was back up and kicking in a couple of weeks. Crazy!
Now she has an implanted defibrillator and pacing wires which makes our whole family sleep a bit more soundly at night. Mum was one of the lucky ones. I want to raise money for BHF so they can keep creating life saving tools just like this one and help thousands more people.
